Day9 9/1 vs Northern Park

Finally a hot summers day to play cricket at Petone Rec. The outfieeld was lightning fast and the wicket quite flat but it did appear to seam around. We lost the toss and Northern Park chose to bat. They got a way to a flyer with their openers scoring 65 . They scored 227 runs nd we bowled them out in the 37th over. The wickets were shared around , Rupa 3 , Mike Rennie 2 , Andrews 2 , Justin/Dave 1 each. Not sure what happened to Matt as he went for 45 off 5.

We were required to score at 5 an over and on this wicket it was achievable. We lost 4 of our top order for 5 runs. Despite this collapse we managed to score 181 all out in the 32 over. Northern Park bowled well , batters to score runs – Willie 68 , Rupa 39 , Will Trotter 19.

Final Result – loss by 47 runs

Day8 19/12 vs Upper Hutt

Because the 1st day was rained out this match was changed to a 1 dayer.  Another communication balls up meant that we arrived at the ground to find no opponents.

After some brief celebration that we won by default this was extinguished pretty quickly. Another Upper Hutt team turned up to play mentioning that our match had been moved to another ground. Some frantic phone calls revealed that we needed to be in Upper Hutt.

We arrived at TMP 45 mins late , won the toss and put Upper Hutt into bat.  We bowled them out for 130 after 26 odd overs.  Wickets being spread evenly amongst bowlers. Highlights being Matt Hill picking up 3 wickets after 8 overs and young Dylan from OZ and Rupa moping up the tail. Sam Clemens also picked up some pretty good catches as usual rounding off a good fielding effort.

We had Rupa play for us for the 1st time , which was a bit of a novelty given that it was supposedly the 8th weekend of the season.  Sully played his 1st game back and quite entertaining seeing one of the Upper Hutt boys getting sledged for not walking after a blatant caught behind. The batsmen latter admitted he did hit the ball and never walks.

We then batted and got off to a good start scoring at 5-6 an over , unfortunately it started to rain pretty heavily and we were losing wickets at a regular rate . We only ended up soring 90 after 20 odd overs. Players to score runs Jeremy Lewis 24 and young Dylan from OZ 18. Other than that the other designated batters Andrews / Reidy / Sam / Sully etc failed to fire .

We had a young fella named Dylan Comerford from OZ play for us, he was so impressed with the friendliness of the team he may even come back and play if he’s on holiday again in NZ. I think we should also keep an eye on him from this side of the ditch as I suspect he is destined for higher honours.

Not sure what happened to Mikey Rennie but hope the hangover recovers before the next match.

Final Result: Loss by 30 runs

Day7 – 12/12 vs Upper Hutt

Another day rained off.

Day6 – 5/12 vs Hutt1

This match was changed to a 1 day match due to the previous weeks rained off day. We won the toss and elected to field. Despite being short of 1-2 bowlers we did manage to hold opposition to 177 for 4 off there 45 overs.

We then batted and made 140 for 4 off our 45 overs.  We started slowly and were 40 for 2 after 22 overs and then amped up the run rate after drinks.  Postives – usual bowlers performed well , Dave  , Justin and Nathan . Batting wise ,  Justin scored first 50 for season. Willie 56 (out to Rupert again) .

Negatives – despite having 11 players Friday morning we had 3 pull out so had another mad scramble to find players. Thanks to THE Don , Nathan Issac and Chris Edlin for filling in. Our run rate was a bit slow early in our innings.

Positives –  All our bowlers did well to hold them to under 4 per over. Batters did well to bat our 45 overs , well done Justin 1st 50 for the season.

Final result : Loss by 30 runs

Day3 – 14 Nov vs Taita

This was the 1st Day of a 2dayer. Chris Sinclair captain lost toss and Taita decided to bat (1st Taita mistake). We rolled them for 50 odd. Nathan Isaac 8-7.

We then batted our 55 overs , they bowled their openinh strike bowler into a strong wind (2nd mistake) and we made 180 odd from our 55 overs. Mike Rennie 72 , Willie Andrews 67, Aaron Read 32.

Finished the day with a 130 run lead.  Later that evening All Whites beat Bahrain 1-0 to top off a good day.

Day1 – 31 Oct vs Wainuiomata

The 1st days play of the seaosn was rained off.  The start of the season was a bit of a monumental balls up on Wgtn Crickets behalf , they floated  idea of ditching all 2day cricket in the Hutt Valley for 2A and below .

This went down like a ton of bricks and to cut a long story short we are now playing in a 2 day competition with 10 Teams this year including a couple of team from 2A last season.
